Hinnant, Pirates overtake

Sam Hinnant scored 24
points, including a four-point play that ignited a second half comeback,
to lead East Carolina to a 75-62 victory over Marshall Wednesday night
in Greenville.
The Pirates were trailing
48-40 when Hinnant converted a three-point shot and was fouled with a
little over 15 minutes remaining. The junior guard sank the free throw,
cutting the deficit to 4, and ECU was on its way to a 23-8 surge and
control of the game.
Over the course of the
contest, Hinnant connected on 7 of 11 field goal attempts, including 6
of 10 from behind the arc, and made all 4 of his free throw
opportunities.
Senior guard Darrell
Jenkins scored 14 points and freshman guard Brock Young added 12 for the
Pirates, who evened their Conference USA record at 1-1.
Junior guard Darryl
Merthie with 16 points and senior guard Mark Dorris with 15 were the
only Thundering Herd players in double points.
Marshall, which fell to
1-2 in league play, led at the half 37-35.
East Carolina will remain
at home to host C-USA foe Central Florida Saturday night at 7 p.m.
