Eagles fly away in 2nd
half

Winthrop quickly expanded
a three-point halftime margin and went on to pull away from East
Carolina for a 69-50 victory Thursday night in Greenville.
The outcome improved the
Eagles to 9-3 on the season and extended ECU's losing skid to five
games. After winning four of their first five games, the Pirates have
mired down and are now
4-6 heading into a week-long layoff before facing N.C. State in Raleigh
next Thursday (7 p.m.)
Michael Jenkins scored 19
points to pace Winthrop. Torrell Martin added 15 points for the Eagles,
while 10 points apiece were contributed by Craig Bradshaw and Taj
McCullough. Bradshaw also had a game-high eight rebounds.
Darrell Jenkins and Sam
Hinnant led the Pirates with 12 points each.
As it has in many of its
recent games, East Carolina suffered from poor shooting. The Pirates
made 33.3 percent of their field goal attempts, including only 18.8
percent from three-point range.
Winthrop converted 47.5 percent
from the field, 25.9 percent from behind the arc.
The Eagles led at the half
25-22.
