Seahawks sink
cold-shooting Pirates

UNC-Wilmington's Trask
Coliseum proved once again to be a treacherous place for East Carolina
as the Pirates sputtered offensively in a 59-44 loss to the Seahawks
Tuesday night.
Junior Todd Hendley scored
a game-high 15 points and led a late 11-2 surge that sealed the
Seahawks' victory, their 20th over ECU in 26 games the teams have played
in Wilmington over the years.
Freshman Montez Downey
added 14 points for UNCW, including 11 in the second half, while junior
Vladimir Kuljanin recorded 12 points.
Freshman John Fields was a
rare example of offensive proficiency on a frigid shooting night for the
Pirates, scoring 12 points on 5 of 6 from the floor and a pair of free
throws.
ECU (4-3) made only 17 of
50 field goal attempts (34.0 percent), 3 of 22 from three-point range
(13.6 percent) and 7 of 15 free throws (46.7 percent.)
Freshman Gabe Blair had 10
rebounds for the Pirates.
The Seahawk (3-4) were 22
of 54 from the field (40.7 percent), 5 of 16 from behind the arc (31.3
percent) and 10 of 12 from the foul line (83.3 percent.)
The teams were tied at
halftime, 21-21.
East Carolina will host South Florida on Saturday at 7 p.m.
