Moussa punishes
Crusaders

GREENVILLE — Moussa
Badiane scored 26 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked six shots
to lead East Carolina to a 77-50 win over Division II Belmont Abbey on
Sunday.
Courey Rouse also had a
double-double for the Pirates (3-2), with 15 points and 11 rebounds
before fouling out.
Mike Cook added 11 points
and 12 assists for ECU.
Rafael Moreira had 17
points and 11 rebounds for the Crusaders (1-1), scoring on all seven
free-throw attempts — half of the team's 14-20 free throw total.
Damien Humphrey, with 10
points, was the only other player in double figures for Belmont Abbey,
which was
harried defensively for most of the game
by an ECU team seeking to atone for a
sloppily-defended 90-60 loss at Gardner-Webb on Tuesday
night.
East Carolina took a 35-30
lead into halftime, shooting 44.1 percent from the field — failing on
all five 3-point attempts — to Belmont Abbey's 30.3 percent.
The Pirates picked up the
pace in the second half, shooting 64.3 percent on field goals and going
4-7 on 3-pointers, while the Crusaders sank to 22.2 percent and missed
all seven 3-point efforts.
ECU's next game is
Wednesday,
when the Pirates host Mid-American Conference power Toledo at 7 p.m.
