Hurricane strikes in second half

TULSA, OK Paul Smith
threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns and Tarrion Adams added two
touchdown runs as Tulsa gained bowl eligibility by shaking off a
halftime deficit and routing East Carolina on Saturday.
Smith threw a 38-yard
scoring pass to Garrett Mills to give the Golden Hurricane a 17-13 lead
in the third quarter and start a run of 35 unanswered points that
culminated in a 45-13 win.
After Adams scored his
second touchdown on a 14-yard run, Smith completed a 29-yard TD pass to
Ashlan Davis as Tulsa (6-4, 5-2 Conference USA) bounced back after
trailing 13-10 at halftime.
East Carolina (3-6, 2-4)
scored 13 straight points in the second quarter and took a 13-10 lead on
Robert Lee's 45-yard field goal at the end of the first half.
Smith completed 19 of 28
passes with no interceptions and Mills had nine catches for 127 yards.
Uril Parrish rushed for 87 yards on 14 carries and had a 2-yard
touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Cauvey Jackson added an
18-yard TD run for Tulsa, which is eligible for a bowl for the second
time in three seasons under coach Steve Kragthorpe.
James Pinkney was
20-for-33 for 188 yards including a 26-yard touchdown pass to Aundrae
Allison in the second quarter for the Pirates, who have lost three games
in a row and were eliminated from postseason play.
