Tuesday brought a tragedy of unfathomable proportions to the United States.  Terrorist attacks on high profile governmental and economic symbols of the nation resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent citizens in addition to injuring an untold number and causing immense sorrow .

In the first of many East Carolina University athletic contests which may be affected by events which highlight the reality that sports is but a footnote in the collage of U.S. society, yesterday's scheduled soccer match between Duke and ECU was postponed indefinitely.

ECU representatives will participate in teleconferences today involving Conference USA and NCAA officials to decide upon guidelines and a time-frame for resuming scheduled athletic events.

Moral, logistical and security concerns are expected to be considered by the officials.  An announcement is expected later today regarding the timing of any resumption of scheduled contests, including the football game between ECU and Syracuse that was to have been played this coming Saturday in the Carrier Dome.
